Tides Marine TPS-SMK SmartSeal Temperature Sensor N2K Single Engine Main Unit

Tides Marine has developed a shaft seal temperature monitoring system to work in conjunction with the Tides SureSeals® running on commercial and pleasure craft with single or twin-engine installations. The system also works with other manufacturers’ dripless shaft seals with standard NPT injection fittings.

The SmartSeal® Temperature Sensor is designed to monitor shaft seal housing temperature using a solid state sensor, electronic control module and a remote alarm unit with an optional warning siren. It will also report Engine Room Air Temperature when connected to an NMEA2000 network.

Any increase outside of the normal temperature range of the shaft seal will trigger audible and visual warning and critical alert alarms. The control module is powered directly from the NMEA2000 network or any onboard 12 VDC power source if an NMEA2000 network is not present.

SmartSeal Benefits
The SmartSeal Temperature Sensor detects increases in water temperature within the shaft seal and will cause the alarm to sound. As temperature increases, first a warning indication occurs allowing the crew advanced notice of a problem. Further temperature increases will trigger a critical alert warning indicating that a seal failure will occur if not corrected.

These alarms will notify the owner and crew that an immediate inspection of the shaft seal is required to prevent potentially costly damage. The SmartSeal Temperature Sensor is solid-state with no moving parts and mounts to the existing water injection fitting on a shaft seal unit. Sensors are pre-wired with 10 meters of heat and water resistant cable (extensions available), allowing convenient unit location. The Control module has self-diagnostic test on power-up and comes with a 2-year warranty. Green OK light confirms that the system is functioning correctly. In the event of an alarm the Control module identifies which shaft seal is starting to overheat and has a RESET button to cancel alarm events. Memory re-activates alarm after power interruption.

The Control module mounts to the engine room bulkhead and is available for single or twin-engine installations. An Engine Room temperature sensor is standard on all control units and the module also has an output for optional remote siren or for connection to on-board warning/alarm system. A Remote unit designed for mounting at helm or flybridge positions is also available. The SmartSeal Temperature Sensor can be retro-fitted to any Tides Marine SureSeal or other manufacturers’ dripless shaft seal already in service.
